One Small Seed
Original short story · Amber English
Aya put a seed in a pot on her kitchen windowsill. Each morning she watered it and looked for something green. For a week, nothing happened.
“Perhaps it needs more water,” she said. Her brother touched the wet soil. “Perhaps it needs more time.”
Aya moved the pot into a brighter spot and waited. Three days later, a tiny green leaf appeared. She took a photograph and sent it to her brother.
By the end of the month, the plant had six leaves. Aya still checked it every morning. Now, though, she was happy just to watch it grow.
